Christmas is just around the corner. The economy is kind of sucky, but you still want to give your friends something small.
How about something homemade?
I recently gave away some homemade vanilla extract and some taco spices.
If you haven't made vanilla extract before, it is really easy. (Maybe you could try this for next Christmas?)
And the taco spices are a nice combination of different spices, beats the pre-packaged stuff!
Just put into small jam jars, wrap up, attach a card...you're good to go!
I think with the economy being the way it is, and probably for some time into the future, homemade gifts will become the new rage. I prefer them way more than something flashy and new, but this trait could be due to my age. I get enough "junk" and appreciate receiving da love mo' bettah!
ReplyDeleteSo many people are doing homemade gifts this year and I think it is an excellent idea!
ReplyDeleteWow! I am really going to try and make my own vanilla extract. It is so expensive to buy it. Thanks for the idea. ^^
ReplyDeleteAhh, very cute jars and great gift ideas. Wish I was as organised like you are.
ReplyDeleteTwo years ago I made up some nice giveaways of choc biscottis, choc truffles and some pistachio bikkies. Last year, I made nothing because I just moved to London and didn't have all my equipment with me.
This year, well.. I wAS thinking of making something.. if only I wasn't still ill with this miserable cough/flu. I guess I will just have to give this year another miss..
I can't believe it's christmas next week!
aww the little bottles are so cute! For the vanilla, the pods would have to be left in there? Do you have to cut it open for the seeds and essence to mix with the vodka?
ReplyDeleteYeah, me too, I get too much junks around, Rowena :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Esi :)
Once you try making it Sarah, you may never buy it again :)
Oh no, Ilingc, I hope you feel better soon!
Phoebe, I've documented the process throughout my blog, please check it out. Yes, you need to cut the pods and then soak them in the vodka.
Take care everyone.

I think it is a splendid idea. There are so many "home made" items one can make that bring love and sentiment!
ReplyDeleteThanks Lynne :)

What great gift ideas? I love homemade gifts even more than purchased ones.
ReplyDeleteAnd speaking of gifts, I just sent you an e-mail with my mailing address so I can collect my prize! I thought I sent you my info a few days ago but now I realize I mistyped your e-mail address. My apologies and thanks again!

omg those jars are SOOOO cute! can't find cuteness like that here in our stores (boo)
ReplyDeleteI made cookies, Oreo truffles and grapefruit marmalade for my coworkers this Christmas!
ReplyDeleteI wish I could find those little jars you have! They're too cute! Great size!
Thanks Jaden, I actually received some jellies/jams from France and re-used the jars.
ReplyDeleteThanks MC, the oreo truffles and marmalade sound delicious!
Take care you two.
Kat
Ooooh, such a cool idea! And I LOVE those little jars!
ReplyDeleteThanks Fuji Mama! I'm glad I found a use for these tiny jars :)
ReplyDeleteTake care.

Love the jars, I am taking some home made lilikoi curd and some matcha tea salt to Portland for gifts but my jars are not half as cute. Love the taco spice idea--my family would probably like that more than the matcha salt!
ReplyDeleteThe jars only hold a tablespoon of spices/extract, Deb, I think your family will like both of your gifts :)
ReplyDeleteTake care.

Homemade Gifts, at some point, I decided I needed less fuss in my life and I should give up on homemade gifts. I've discovered that while it is much more practical and affordable to buy gifts rather than make them, it is not more fun.
ReplyDeleteYou should bring back the fun and think about going back to homemade Sujan :)
ReplyDeleteTake care.
Kat
Well,if you ask me I also choose the homemade gifts I like the idea.
ReplyDeletevitton
