Saturday after a lesson, I walked to the grocery store.
On my way, I passed by SOL to see if he had keema curry....nope.
I debated whether to get lunch from there, but on my way back from the grocery store, I stopped to pick-up some tandoori chicken (3 drumette pieces) 300 yen (about US$3), naan 200 yen (about US$2) & chicken curry 300 yen (about US$3).
The tandoori was skewered onto metal skewers then placed into the same vertical "oven" that the naan was baked in.
Since I wasn't feeling too hungry, I ate 1 drumette, halved the curry and halved the naan.
I think the only time I've tried tandoori chicken was at CPK (California Pizza Kitchen) and that version was really dry. The tandoori chicken at SOL was moist, tender with a little zap of spiciness....delicious.
I also made some chai, using the spices I picked up in Tokyo.
Lunch the next day was even better, I put the chicken and naan in the oven to warm up. The chicken got bright orangey-pink and a little burnt, the naan got crispy and the curry was delicious, it was a nice way to warm up on a cold day.
Hey Kat - You got two meals out of one..... How is the weather right now in your part of the world?
ReplyDeleteOoh, that next day snack with the leftovers sounds yummy!
ReplyDeletethe tandoori chicken looks very well seasoned, Kat! appetizing! haha I have no idea why but when food gets reheated again, it tastes so much nicer the first time.
ReplyDeleteNever made chai at home, but sure would like to. Maybe over the holidays, I'll give it a whirl. I need to de-mystify cardamom for myself; for some reason, I'm really intimidated about using it in the kitchen!
ReplyDeleteMm mmm mmmm. :)
ReplyDeleteDid I miss a post where you had made your own blend of chai tea? I've been getting the Twinings Chai teabags since they don't carry Celestial Seasonings here. A box of teabags is about 3.50 euros ($4.50+) so it's getting kinda expensive!
ReplyDeleteKirkk,
ReplyDeleteThe daytime it is about 18C (64F), nighttime 3C (37F). :)
Actually it was my lunch, Lori :)
Must the reheating that makes it taste better?? dunno, Phoebe.
I hope you try making chai, Marie, it is a very warming type of drink with all the spices in it.
Take care everyone.
Kat
Thanks Tamakikat :)
ReplyDeleteI bought a blend of spices in Tokyo in October, Rowena :) I usually steep some black tea then add the spices, then add some sugar then milk. If you can get the spices, you should try from scratch, save you some $$.
Take care you two.
Kat
i had no idea CPK even had tandoori chicken! but i haven't been to one in ages, so maybe they've spruced up their menu.
ReplyDeleteif you're even in the san francisco bay area, you must try the tandoori chicken and naan at Breads of India in Berkeley. the chicken is well-spiced and tender plus their naan is incredible.
I think it was on a pizza Grace, thanks for the tip in Berkeley, will add it to my list of places to visit in California :)
ReplyDeleteTake care.
Kat
Ok, now I am craving Chai too and will make some tomorrow! I love a good, moist Tandori chicken--the picture looks great!
ReplyDeleteHope you get some chai, Deb :)
ReplyDeleteTake care.
