For Satoshi’s birthday, I bought a small tray of assorted sashimi (maguro (tuna), madai (red sea bream), ika (squid) and buri (amberjack)) chopped it up, added some thinly sliced onions and seasoned it with half a packet of NOH poke mix and a teaspoon of sesame oil.
I also picked up cake from
Maiko, chocolat noblesse for me, which reminded me of Dee Lite bakery’s dream cake and a strawberry tart for Satoshi.
The poke got the thumbs up from the birthday boy.
Super low key but grateful we are able to celebrate.
semi-rant: he went out on Saturday with a friend for lunch and drank so much that he stumbled home! and slept until the next day…sigh! just thankful he made it home safely (even if he scraped his wrist somewhere)
Happy belated birthday to Satoshi! I love how you can buy the individual slices of cake so each can get their own preference of birthday cake (even though not yours, LOL) and as usual, whenever I see your pictures of sashimi, I really want to eat it, looks so ono. Perhaps the onion slices would add enough crunch to help with the texture of the poke. More like poke flavored onion if I were to try, LOL.

We actually used to buy whole cakes before V, but since it is only the 2 of us, may as well get what we want to eat and in smaller portions :)

sorry I missed his birthday, but after reading that he came home all soused! lucky him, I can't even do that kind of drinking anymore; I get really sick! Happy Belated Satoshi!
ReplyDeleteThanks Rowena, I told him next time he gets together for lunch with his friend they should go drink coffee afterwards instead.
