Recently Dean's Drive-Inn was featured in the paper, and since Satoshi was here, Mom thought it was the perfect chance to check them out.

Satoshi ordered their Island Fresh Ahi (yellow fin tuna) Belly Plate $11.95, this came with choice of soup, tossed salad or mac salad, Satoshi chose their bacon potato chowder.

You could also choose how you wanted your Ahi Belly prepared (furikake, butter & capers or shoyu ginger), he chose furikake.

He said this was good! and ate everything not leaving any to share.

Mom and I chose the ahi cake sandwich $9.95 each, this came with choice of fries, tossed salad or mac salad.

I took fries while Mom chose mac salad.

She wasn't too impressed with their mac salad, but feared that if she ordered fries they would be soggy.

They were, but were delicious with that sweet chili aioli they serve with the sandwich.

The ahi cake (patty) was a nice size too and filled with lots of the fish, delicious!

For dessert, the 3 of us shared this butter mochi with haupia (coconut pudding).

Butter mochi is a local favorite, the mochi is buttery & coconutty and with the addition of haupia, it takes this over the top! $2.

A bit pricey, but for fresh seafood, totally worth it! We'll be back!

he'eia kea pier

First off, the damage from the typhoon here in Japan was pretty massive with many deaths and people missing due to landslides and flooding, I hope these areas will be able to re-build quickly and I hope they will be able to find those that are missing.

While I was in Hawaii, my cousin and her family were also vacationing, so we met up with them at He'eia Kea Pier for lunch.

Apparently this place had closed down and then was re-opened by an up and coming chef.

Set right on the water, this place has great views of the ocean as well as beautiful views of the mountains.

Since it is on the Windward side of the island, it can get kinda wet, but we were lucky that it was just cloudy that day.

I chose the Kim Chee burger which was one of the daily specials.

Oozy cheese, a little mayo, lots of kim chee and a juicy burger...how can you go wrong with that?!

Cousin P's son, K inhaled his cheeseburger before I could get a shot of it...you know he must've been hungry and it must've been good!

My mom and F chose the Guava chicken...this is chicken marinated in a guava-soy based sauce then grilled...so moist and flavorful!

K also had some pieces of guava chicken...he must've really been hungry!

My cousin, P chose the Hamburger Steak plate...juicy burger smothered in gravy, she loved it.

I know if Satoshi had been with us he'd would've wanted to add an egg to that (can you say, "Loco Moco!")

Everything is cooked to order, so expect to wait.

For the price, the plates are definitely worth more than the burgers, but it was a great place to eat, good food, and while you wait you can chat with all sorts of people...only in Hawaii.

boston's north end pizza

Saturday, I went out with BFF to walk around Windward Mall in Kaneohe. We hadn't been there in ages and boy, were there lots of changes to the Mall and a LOT of people there too.

Since we were getting hungry, we decided to check out Boston's North End Pizza. It had been several years since we ate here and it actually had moved from the location we had known them to be at, to a location closer to Windward Mall.

One thing that hadn't changed was the size of the slice of pizza that you get. It is still HUGE and equals about the size of 4 slices. I got the Boston Special, which is their Supreme. It was delicious and just how I remembered it!

I was surprised at how much the price had gone up (now US$6.90), but for the slice size and taste, I would still say that it was worth it.
