happy doughnut day

It's National Doughnut Day today.

Am hoping to get my hands on some, in the meantime, you can drool over some of the doughnuts I've had in the past.

toong mai

Toong Mai is a Chinese puffed rice cake.

The true way to puff the rice is with hot sand, but I think these days people puff the rice in hot oil.

My aunty bought my mom a tub of this from Chinatown.

A hint of ginger and some peanuts make this stuff addicting!

She said she thinks the place starts with an "S". I think I know where she is talking about and hope to check it out soon.

My brother just imported his cat from the mainland...her name is Malia.

Guess she's my "niece"...and she can call me "aunty".

Growing up, we've never had a cat as a pet, only dogs, and that was many, many moons ago.

On top of that, we've never had any pets indoors, well, except for fish...

We're all still trying to get acquainted...

teddy's bigger burgers

Went to Teddy's Bigger Burgers with BFF the other weekend.

Their teri burger was just their regular burger with teriyaki sauce on it (and it costs extra for the teriyaki sauce!)

Anyway, I wasn't too impressed with this one. I prefer W & M's burger.

Their cheese fries on the other hand were still delicious.

I'll be back (maybe just for the cheese fries). (Thanks for lunch W!)

I know I just posted a "hawaii sights", but it's Satoshi's birthday today. I'm bummed I'm not there to help him celebrate it.

So, I'm sending him this awesome sunset we had recently.

Popcorn orchid in full bloom at my parent's house...beautiful.

unreal

Recently found these candies by Unreal, called Unjunked, at Target.

They boast using no corn syrup, no partially hydrogenated oil, no artificial ingredients, no GMO nor preservatives.

I liked the peanut butter cups, the chocolate seemed to be on the darker side.

And I appreciated the peanut butter filling, not like the one I tried the last time I was home.

The chocolate caramel nougat bar was delicious as well.

Similar to a Milky Way bar in taste, it had a lower sugar amount.

The chocolate candy shells were like M & Ms but the colors muted.

I like that they used beetroot juice, turmeric & purple cabbage to color these candies.

They were a bit sweet to me even though they have a lower sugar amount than the M & Ms.

The candies overall are a little smaller than the more "famous" ones, but for a lesser amount of sugar, I think it is a good thing.

I'd definitely buy these again.
