moving the "chi"-air

Sometimes you need a change. That's what the Japanese and Chinese probably mean when they talk about moving the "ki" or "chi". There is much belief in Japan and China that the energy, "chi", of things, even people can be hampered by the placement of things in a room. Some people actually go to seek advice before buying a house or where to place their furniture in the room. Sometimes, just cleaning does the trick to move some "chi".

Well, our futon bed's "chi" needed to be moved. We bought it when we lived in Hawaii and to tell you the truth the futon has reached its limit. You can feel the metal bars when sitting on the sofa or lie on it as a bed. And the bolts that hold the frame together are so worn that if we had to move, we probably would be able to take the frame apart, but not be able to put it back together.

So, I asked Satoshi if we could get a new sofa. He's kind of a pack-rat, so he didn't really want to part with the futon bed. But I talked him into it. (Actually, the price of the sofa talked him in to it. )

Since the delivery guys were coming today, I told Satoshi that we should take apart our sofa and have it ready for them to take away. He's like, "it's their job, let them do it. you're being too nice." I tell him, "but when we moved in, the sofa wasn't put together, they won't be able to get it out of the apartment if it is still whole." He's like, "oh, but, it still is their job." I said, "yeah, maybe it is their job, but we should still take it apart so that they can take the old one and bring in the new one sa-sa (quickly)."

So, the other day, we took the sofa apart and being the pack-rat that he is, Satoshi decided that he would let them take the frame and he would keep the futon mattress for the spare room for him to lounge on....sigh.

I guess we moved a little "chi", hopefully that will be enough to get us transferred out of Japan.

Just thought I'd share a funny incident (if you aren't Japanese) that happened as we were dismantling the futon bed...you know the little saying to loosen bolts and screws.."lefty loosy, righty tighty"? Well, I told it to Satoshi and well, for Japanese, it has no meaning for them because the saying comes out..."refty roosy, lighty tighty"...
