red velvet cupcakes

For Satoshi's birthday yesterday, I made red velvet cupcakes using half of this recipe for the cake and half of this recipe for the frosting.

I subbed the sour cream with plain yogurt.

Actually with the butter shortage still going on here, making this cake used quite a bit of butter (half a box), but this was so worth it. The cake was moist and the frosting...yum!

Happy Birthday Satoshi!

P.S. I love the plates (design) holding the cupcakes.

Thanks Paz, actually making this cake was a success, the birthdays in the past had some pretty disastrous cakes.

Take care.

What a perfect idea for Satoshi's birthday. I was just wondering though....how do they sing Happy Birthday in Japan? Do they use the same tune as well? The only thing different in Italy, as you can guess, are the words, but the tune stays the same!

Happy birthday to Satoshi! I hope you guys get to do something fun to celebrate! :)

Rowena,
They sing "happy birthday" like us, but with a major accent and when they come to the person's name, they say "Satoshi-san".

Thanks Lori!

Take care you two.

I just love Red Velvet cake. I think those cupcakes are so cute. I recently went to Coffee Bean and had the Red Velvet cake it was a disappointment the cake was dry and the frosting okay. Happy Birthday Satoshi!

Thanks Laura, too bad the cake you had at Coffee Bean was a disappointment, I find that most coffee places have their cakes in the refrige which usually dries them out.

Take care.
