we tried kanno seimen's jumbo shumai is no joke, they are huge!
I had the bukkake udon with toriten (chicken tempura), chikuwa with nori and their chocolate udonuts..
I thought I took a photo of this when I was eating one of the udonuts, but sadly I did not...these were super chocolatey...love!
about the size of a golf ball...5 for 330 yen (tax included)
The filling is seasoned well, so no need to add shoyu when eating
we ate ours with black vinegar and satoshi also added karashi (mustard) to his
we checked out the marugame seimen under the keikyu kamata station...super teeny in comparison to the one we go to in Kawasaki, but the line moves rather quicklyI had the bukkake udon with toriten (chicken tempura), chikuwa with nori and their chocolate udonuts..

tried the dubai style chocolate pistachio ice cream from 7-eleven
tried the dubai style chocolate pistachio ice cream from 7-eleven
thank you V
the saltiest & toughest kalbi and brisket from matsuya…it made the stuff in the miso soup seem like it had no flavor!
kalbi don done relatively right at yoshinoya...the meat still had lots of tendons, but at least the salt was way lower than the one at matsuya
and proof that global warming is real...ume is already starting to bloom
Hope 2026 got off to a nice start for you

No Ozoni for us these days Kat! The Missus doesn't care for it! Hope you had a wonderful New Years!
can't wait to try the Yoshinoya bowl. I hope it's not seasonal.
next time you are in Hawaii, You should try the pork hash from Sing Cheong Yuan. It's huge.
The only reason I used to go to Marugame was for the tempura chikuwa but they said the local company they got the chikuwa from closed so it's been off the menu and whenever I pop in to check over the years, they still don't have a supplier. boo.
Nijiya sells these little trays of osechi ryori stuff that I think is great for single or couples because the full sizes from around town start at $250 and way up to over $500!!! Looks so good, but, wow!
I've been scoring ozoni from a secret source that is sooooo ono! (thanks, you know who!) since my family never did ozoni just toasted mochi in the oven with sato/shoyu or kinako.
