m.3546 bakers

Been wanting to try m.3546 Bakers after seeing them on a tv show.

They are only open on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

I know Saturdays would have way more people, so I aimed for a Wednesday.

I was first in line, and luckily there was wi-fi, so I emailed Satoshi to ask him what kind of dessert he wanted.

I purchased the cultured butter scone...380 yen (tax included)

I put this in the freezer and will try it later.

Satoshi wanted the basque cheesecake...626 yen (tax included)

He enjoyed this.

I wanted the carrot cake...648 yen (tax included)...this was different from carrot cake I've had before.

I loved how much spice there was and I think the carrots were grated because you couldn't tell they were in there.

There was also a nice amount of nuts in there.

I also purchased their saba (mackerel) tuna sandwich...590 yen (tax included).

This was a little too salty but I liked the smokiness from the saba

And the campagne bread! was so delicious too, glad I toasted the sandwich before eating it.

This particular day, they were selling mostly desserts instead of breads, so I will try for another Wednesday to check out their breads.

I'll be back.

araiya tofu shop

Been wanting to check out Araiya Tofu Shop ever since seeing it on a television show. (photo from the internet)

Finally got a chance when I went to return the pudding bottles.

Picked up their soy de queijo (which is inspired by pao de queijo, the Brazlian cheese bread)

Not sure if these actually had cheese in them but they were super airy.

I tried their black bean and margherita flavors...160 yen each (tax included)

The black bean used the sweet black bean that we often see at New Years.

And the margherita flavor had sun dried tomato and fresh basil in it.

Both were different but delicious.

Another thing I tried was their shumai...160 yen each (tax included)

The wrappers were filled with fishcake then fried, so ono!

We also tried their oden...580 yen (tax included)

So good with yuba and it was my first time using yuzu kosho (citron pepper) with oden

I'll be back to try other items.

around senzokuike

In 2019, the Katsu Kaishu Memorial Museum opened up to the public where the Seimei Bunko Library used to be on the grounds of the Senzokuike Park.

We went to check it out today.

There were many videos and artifacts explaining the life of Katsu Kaishu, who founded the Japanese Navy, and who was a peacemaker.

Loved the tile!

Katsu Kaishu and his wife are buried next to the museum.
Nearby is Myofukuji.
Super peaceful.

Down the street is Yukigaya Hachiman Shrine.

Shusseishi : stone to pray for success

Before becoming yokozuna, sumo wrestler Taiho, taught some children sumo in this area.

Then, in 1959, when Yukigaya Hachiman Shrine was built, and Taiho was promoted to yokozuna, he donated this shusseishi to the shrine.

Pretty flowers.
Lots of koi nobori decorated by children in the area.

Many had wishes and prayers written on them.

It was nice to walk around and get out and about.

soul food

We checked out Soul Food, a teeny shop that I spotted from the train.

A cute couple running the shop, it was quite amazing to see them not get in each other's way since the kitchen area was so teeny.

I ordered the chicken curry...1000 yen (tax included).

This came with a salad and some consomme soup.

The curry had just the right amount of spices so as not to "burn" your mouth off.

The chicken was a little on the dry side, but at least it was cooked through (you'd be surprised at how many eateries do not cook their food all the way through).

Satoshi ordered the steak curry...1200 yen (tax included).

His plate looked good. His meal also came with some consomme soup and his salad was served with his curry.

They cook the steak after you order so be prepared to wait.

There are other items on their menu that we want to try...we'll be back.
