sarameshi musubi

There is a show "Sarameshi" that features all sorts of bento.

I haven't watched this show in awhile because they changed the time of the program.

Anyway, recently when I happened to be flipping the channels, I was able to catch a re-run episode where they featured different musubi.

There wasn't a recipe for this particular musubi online, so I made up my own.

1 cup cooked rice

1 tablespoon chirimen sansho
1 tablespoon takuan
1 tablespoon thinly sliced cucumber
5 leaves of shiso, juilienned.

1/2 teaspoon of sesame oil
1/2 teaspoon roasted sesame seeds

This recipe made about 3 musubi which we enjoyed and I have already made this again.

This week has been quite krazy...I hope the results will be known as soon as possible.

The weather here is getting very cold, and the experts are getting worried as Japan's numbers have been rising.

They are suggesting to keep ventilating our homes (by opening windows) and businesses all while trying to keep warm...layer up everyone!

Make sure your mask is covering your nose!

Have a safe and social distanced weekend.

How much does shiso cost there? I just paid $2.49 for 10 leaves. I usually try to grow my own but my plants flowered so they dried up. I have to wait until the seeds sprout again but sometimes it's faster to go to home depot and buy a small plant for $2.49 and within a week or so, it grows enough leaves to use.

My boss has perfected his salted salmon recipe that he sous vide and when he shares it with us for lunch, he always asks for shiso. I brought stuff to make dashi chazuke the next day and he loved it, took a picture and sent it to his wife and daughter.

Although it's getting cold there, seems like we're going opposite. Been so humid lately.

Unreal how we still don't have an election outcome, yah? Well as long as we can say, "Bye den" to you know who, don't mind waiting a little LOL

V, most markets have 10 leaves rubber banded together and sells it for about 150 yen. Sometimes you can find the ones that aren’t perfectly “flat” packaged in a bag with about 20 or more leaves for about the same price. I try not to buy too much at a time though because it starts to get black.

Take care.

that looks so good and the colors make it appear fresh (like spring).

it's nice to be able to get some sleep now. I was staying up til 2am for updates and it was ruining my sleeping schedule!

Rowena, I was stuck in front of the tv yesterday morning, waiting for the acceptance speech.
Most other times, I try to turn off the tv :) Rest up!

Take care!
