BFF had to get a blood test done, so we went bright and early then hit Koa Pancake House afterwards for breakfast...corned beef hash, over easy eggs and a short stack (3) all for $6.95 (plus tax)...cheap eats!
Loved how crisp the corned beef hash was and the pancakes were fluffy!
We then went on a little errand in town and hit Liliha Bakery on the way home.
Went in for cocoa puffs but came out with a poi doughnut and maple bacon doughnut.
I had seen a lot of hype about these poi doughnuts online.
They are good AND not greasy!
The maple bacon doughnut was more like a brioche dough with thick maple glaze and bacon...so good!
Early morning foodie adventure...Thanks W!

liliha bakery nimitz
The second location of Liliha Bakery opened recently on Nimitz. This is where Sam Choy's BL & C(breakfast lunch & crab)restaurant used to be.
The place is huge!
But...since they "just opened"...it is krazy chaotic!
Be prepared to wait at least 30 minutes (or more) for a table.
And while perusing the menu over and over for that 30 minutes trying to decide what to eat, don't get too hungry for too many items...
They aren't serving their full menu...yet.
Um, then don't show me your full menu if you aren't serving everything that is printed on it...ahem!
Anyway, in the end, we all ordered different breakfast items (for dinner).
I had their two eggs (over easy) this came with choice of protein, which I chose portuguese sausage. It also comes with a scoop of rice and toast or butter roll, I chose butter roll.
The butter roll comes with their fluorescent jelly.
My brother and Aunty had their loco moco, which they enjoyed.
And then we ended with cocoa puffs.
Still delicious!
So, they still need to work out lots of kinks, and parking may become a problem, but all the best to this location!
Thanks Aunty for dinner!

things I'm liking (disliking)
Some random things I'm liking and disliking...starting with disliking...while this bento from Marukai looks really good, most of the side dishes were bland, very disappointing.
These Harney & Sons bottled teas were also a disappointment, very watery, not much flavor and I didn't add ice when I drank them either.
Loving the signs on the bathrooms at the shopping area on Lewers in Waikiki.
Wahine (wah-hee-nay) means woman in Hawaiian, you should also know that Kane (kah-nay) means male.
Love the garlic cheese balls at Big Kahuna Pizza...BFF and I shared an order and a garlic tomato spinach personal sized pizza for lunch one day...so good and cheesy!
Diamond Head Market & Grill's Mochiko chicken musubi is good with chicken in every bite but I think US$3.50 is a little steep for it.
I've been to Yogurtland a couple of times already...some of the frozen yogurt I've eaten was kinda iffy (I really should ask for a taste before I put it into the cup!)
I usually choose toppings like peanut butter cup and my all time favorite the hot pink frosted animal cracker.
A cute cookie made by Liliha Bakery. My mom received this from a friend and shared it with everyone at a Sunday dinner...while it was cute, the cookie didn't have that much flavor.
Apparently the thing to do is paint your nails with a nail polish with "shatter" or "crackle" in the name...I bought my first bottle and love it...you paint a base color, something you want to peek through the "shatter" paint and let it dry thoroughly.
Then add one coat of the shatter paint (mine is silver), if you add any more coats, you will ruin the effect.
Wait for this to dry then paint over with a clear top coat...the shatter paint dries to look like it is cracked...fun, yeah?!
Madre chocolate is a bean to bar operation in Hawaii.
I got this 70% Fair Trade Dominican cacao bar with popped amaranth from Deb and it is delicious. I especially enjoyed the popped amaranth, which seemed like crispies except smokier.
Whew! long list...what are you liking? disliking?

liliha bakery
The other day, I got to meet up with my friend Len for lunch.
Last year when we met up I wanted to go to Liliha Bakery, but they were closed so we ended up going to Pancakes & Waffles.
This year, we planned things better and went to Liliha Bakery.
The line for a seat at their counter was rather short and we both ordered the loco moco.
First up was their butter roll which was toasted. This came with a fluorescent pink jelly (Not sure as to what fruit makes this jelly but I loved the color of this! It looks red in the photo but it is actually pink!)
The roll is so soft and really REALLY buttery...yummy! Toasted, it is many times better too because of the crisp parts.
The loco moco comes with a large mound of rice, a charred hamburger patty, then smothered with some grilled onions, gravy and then topped with two eggs done as you like.
We both chose over-easy.
Some tabasco and some ketchup and we were good to go.
This was good. I loved the char on the burger. I only wished they came with a little more grilled onions though.
As this is one of Satoshi's favorites, I think he would approve, I need to bring him here the next time we are in Hawaii at the same time.
And before we left I picked up some cocoa puffs to bring home to my parents (one for me too).
It was a great place for lunch and I'm glad I got to try it.
Thanks for a great lunch, Len! it was fun catching up with you.

liliha bakery
The green tea version was nice, though it probably could have used more green tea flavor in the cream filling. I liked how they use the same chantilly frosting (tinted green) on top with the addition of macadamia nuts.
The original cocoa puff...filled with chocolate pudding and topped with chantilly. The chantilly seemed a bit salty this day.
And the mini cream puff, though I thought that it might be a mini eclair. Vanilla pudding and chocolate on top.
No sharing involved....just one sugar rush! and some Starbucks iced coffee straight up.
p.s. to the guys at Starbucks Hawaii...please make your iced drinks in short sizes!

These tiny cream puffs are filled with chocolate pudding and topped with a creamy chantilly frosting....addicting stuff!
I think the price went up a bit and they are now US$1.25 each...still delicious.
