aosagi

Our area, though considered part of a big city, is actually quite rural.

We have lots of interesting birds here and there, especially near the rivers.

Many ducks (which Satoshi doesn't believe can fly) and many birds that I have never seen in Hawaii.

One interesting bird is this heron, grey heron to be exact. In Japanese, it is called an aosagi. I thought it would mean blue heron because "aoi" is blue or green in Japanese, but the English name is grey heron.

I think it was pretty cool how it stayed so still while I tried to take its photo from atop a bridge, and then from alongside the river.

Do you have interesting birds/animals where you live?

We have Little Owls (Athene noctua), but as much as I'd like to photograph them, it is impossible as I only hear them at night in the forest. At the lake there are always swans and ducks.

Rowena, So cool, I would love to hear an owl. I don't think we have any around nearby.

Take care.

I think that's really cool -- about the birds and ducks. I'm only now learning about some of the birds in my area and I'm amazed that they are in the city. Have a great week!

I was shocked when I saw a couple of heron at our Ala Moana Beach Park by the bridge. I learned later that they're called Black-Crowned Night Heron.

I think it is so neat you have so many different birds in the city Paz :)

I think those were the same ones my Aunty said she sees when she walks along the Ala Wai, Jalna.

Take care you two.

Very cool that it sat still for you. I don't know my birds at all but I like the little grey ones (cardinals I think?) with the red crests in my backyard.
