hawaii walks and eats

I met up with some former co-workers in Waikiki the other day. My mom had a lunch with her friends near Punahou, so I walked to Waikiki from there.

Here is what I saw along my walk...

I loved the looks of the King Kalakaua Building, it had a kinda retro feel to it.

Saw this Chevy Impala (I think) at an Auto Body shop.

Crossed over the bridge by the Convention Center. (wasn't it a gorgeous day?...it was super hot too!)

Oohed at the carved reliefs on the new Allure Waikiki (where I think Wave Waikiki used to be).

I think these fixtures must look nice all lit up at night.

Was kind of sad to see that Nick's Fishmarket had closed down, took a picture of the sign for posterity.

And they were cutting down all these palms.

I checked out 88 Tees which the Japanese tourists seem to adore.

Lunch was at Atlantis Seafood and Steak...their seafood pasta (which I took after eating most of the seafood).

And a pineapple sherbert. (there was also a delicious salad but it was wolfed down before its photo-op.)

It was great seeing my former co-workers and catching up with them. (Thanks Val and Greg! and Carroll for arranging our lunch!)

Before I caught the bus back to Beretania to meet up with my mom, I bought myself a small iced coffee from the Peet's cart in the Sheraton Waikiki.

I really like Peet's coffee and always buy a bag to take back with me.

Not too sure how I came to love them but do remember getting a bag of their roasted coffee in a paper sack way back when.

Another thing I like about them is that they have small sized drinks, which are cheaper and actually about the same size as the tall sized drinks at Starbucks! (ha!)

Nice walk, nice catch-up with friends and despite the blisters on my feet, an overall nice day.

Nice to walk through Waikiki every so often. We haven't strolled through in a few months, since we don't live in Waikiki anymore. We kind of miss that. I definitely don't miss the driving in & out of Waikiki!

I haven't walked in Waikiki in ages. Looks like such a gorgeous day. ;-)

I love this little-of-everything peek :) And Peets is great! They have them in Boston and the coffee is pretty divine. I'm sad to see Nick's Fishmarket go though (sniff)!

Definitely more fun to walk then drive Rick ;)

It was a gorgeous day Debinhawaii, but it was also super humid ;)

Thanks Jude! I think Nick's closed last year or the year before.

Take care everyone.

Finally I'm back and glad to see that you're still enjoying the islands. Walking in Waikiki...it's been ages for me, but also for riding the bus! How much does it cost these days? And can still bring your bicycle?

TheBus is now $2.50 Rowena, you can still bring your bicycle, not sure if they charge extra for it (probably not). I always try to ride TheBus a couple of times while I'm home to keep me "in practice" with using public transportation :)

Take care.

Kat, I spent a lot of good college hours dancing at Wave Waikiki! My friends and I had a system: Bobby McGee was too yuppie, while Pink Cadillac had too many military guys. The Wave was the perfect stop for us, with its college crowd and alternative music. (We also danced a lot at Anna Bananans near the UH when we wanted to feel reggae, LOL).

I was really sad when I heard The Wave closed, but that's life. Whenever I go back to visit family, I hardly recognize anything in Waikiki (sigh).

I go through Urashima Taro (aka Rip Van Winkle) moments whenever I come back Jenster.

Take care.

by the way Jenster, do you remember what club was across from the Wave, it had a huge parking lot, I think the Landmark Waikiki is now on that property??

No, I can't remember what that place was across from The Wave but I think I can picture it. Maybe another nightclub or one of those Korean bars? I'm getting too old to remember. ;-)

Take care.

It's 30 years since I was in Hawaii. I'd love to revisit.

I hope you get a chance to go Barbara, I would recommend going to one of the outer islands, more nature, less buildings.

Take care.
