cool

Recently, I did some frying and was wondering how to throw out the oil.

I usually don't do frying because it makes the house smell and plus throwing out the oil is usually a pain with all the "rules" we have for throwing garbage out.

But I found this neat item at the store.

I skimmed the directions and sprinkled the powder on and stirred (and stirred) wondering why it wouldn't dissolve.

Then, after taking the time to read the directions, I realized that the oil needs to be semi-warm, for the powder to dissolve.

Since my oil was cooled, I re-heated it to the correct temperature and the powder dissolved, while I stirred it.

Then, after waiting an hour, it hardened into this.

With a spatula I was able to throw it out with our burnable garbage.

Cool!

Since I have more of these packets, I think the next thing I fry will either be andagi (Okinawan donuts) or beignets (New Orleans donuts)....maybe both!

It is Friday here, hope you have a great weekend!

I use this too! I don't fry v. often at home but when I do this makes cleanup soooooo much easier.

Ooh, what a genius idea! It also seems more friendly on the pipes and such - I also struggle with what to do with leftover oil the few rare times I fry things...wonder if something similar is outside Japan? (Research time!)

I wish I had known about this sooner K, maybe I would've fried more things ;)

It is made by Johnson, Jude, not sure if they have something similar elsewhere, but if they did sell it around the world, I'm sure it would be a hit!

Take care you two.

Those are totally the same reasons we don't fry anything. I wonder if they have that product here in the US....

I mentioned it was made by Johnson to Jude, Gtrine, but it is in fact made by SC Johnson, hope you can find it.

Take care.

They think of everything in Japan! I am very naughty. If I ever fry anything I pour the oil down the sink, followed by boiling water. Yuk! I can't remember the last time I deep fried anything though.

I used to pour my oil into a bottle and throw it out Momiji, but I'm glad I found this :)

Debinhawaii I hope they sell it in other countries it is supposedly natural.

Take care you two.

Wow! That's neat! I have to look for that item the next time I am home. Maybe it will be at Marukai or some Japanese store.

Interesting product!

Kat, how would you normally have to dispose of oil if it weren't for this discovery?

If not for this Jenster, I would have probably put the leftover oil into a glass/plastic bottle and thrown it out with my trash, which is actually not allowed here.

Take care.
