this and that

the furry ones keeping warm

I like this umeboshi because there isn't any fake stuff in it.

I am grateful I was able to purchase some recently, but I hope the woman who makes this umeboshi is okay, she lives in Ishikawa prefecture.

The process to help that area after the earthquake has been slow because of the access to the area, hoping they can get the help they need soon.

The trees are getting ready for the pretty season..sasanqua
ume blooming
Unusual double camellia
They are tearing down two houses nearby...so sad.

I was actually surprised with this house because they still had "stuff" in it and they are tearing it down...

Another thing that was sad...this cake I bought for our anniversary, from Patisserie Naohira.

I carried it home gingerly and still, look at it "leaning"

Somehow the raspberry flavor didn't match with the milk chocolate flavor either...bummer.

flowers from Satoshi, ranunculus, rose & gerbera (1 gerbera not shown) for our anniversary

Wednesday, the lady that lives in the apartment building across the street from our building, was harrassing our building cleaning lady by making several trips with her dustpan and throwing dried leaves in our lobby.

backstory: the lady across the street often yells, for reasons unknown, and I have seen the police at her building several times.

she’s yelled at the people who live in the house next door and even someone who lives in our building when a car dropped them off in front of her building

It's not the first time she's harassed our building cleaning lady, apparently the cleaning lady before the one we have now was also harrased by this lady

I felt bad I didn't say anything to the bully, but I was also afraid of retaliation.

When I came back from errands on Thursday, this was our lobby, with lots of leaves...the krazy lady was across the street, "sweeping", since I didn't see her actually do it, I couldn't call the police...

Tuesday, got this krazy message on FB, wasn't sure it was real or one of those phishing things

I couldn't report or block it, so I just deleted it.
Luckily many friends on FB checked for me, it was a phishing thingy, am debating deleting my FB account, it isn’t the same as when I first joined…

changing the subject...apparently FIL’s 17th memorial is this year.

BIL emailed Satoshi with 3 dates to choose from in March: 9th, 16th or 30th.

So Satoshi chose the 30th.

BIL emails back and says, “you know what? since it’s gonna be expensive for you guys to come to Kyoto, we’re just gonna have the service on the 16th, if you can come, fine, if not, fine, WT?!

We still plan to go, but like why even ask us to choose a date?!

Is it full moon? so many krazy things happening…

have a safe weekend

thank you

My aunties sent us a care package filled with all sort of goodies like prune mui, lemon curd, chocolates and cookies!
love it when they line the box with local newspaper, so I can read up on things...

I shared some of the cookies with my dentist's staff

Thank you Aunties, we appreciate your kindness and for thinking of us.

so...

Saturday, I had my dental appointment at 17:00

I decided I should eat a lot for lunch, just in case I couldn't eat after my appointment.

We had lunch at Civitas

It had been awhile since we had been here, the prices have gone up quite a bit but it is still good as ever.

My appointment went as scheduled, the dentist decided to give the cracked tooth a root canal and will eventually cap the tooth.

I need to go back another three times before the capping takes place.

Since the root canal only took 30 minutes, I was debating what to do about dinner.

Luckily Satoshi was meeting up with friends, so I only had to think about my own dinner.

I thought about Shake Shack, but since my mouth was still numb, and it was sleeting and fahreezing, I decided to head back home just in case the snow got krazy and stopped the trains.

On the way home, I remembered that Frou Frou was open, so I got off the train, and luckily didn't have to wait too long to purchase some items.

I purchased the pork and red beans simmered in demi glace and tomato...this was a fancy pork and beans! served over rice with cole slaw, cheese sauce and steak fries.

Loved this dish! meaty, the sauce was a little on the rich side but still very delicious!...800 yen (tax included).

I also purchased this chunky minestrone...500 yen (tax included) for my dinner on Sunday, since Satoshi had another gathering with friends.

I was pleasantly surprised when I put it into the pot to heat up and found 2 small stuffed cabbages in there.

This was a hearty and tasty soup.

I can see why everyone fill up their baskets when they purchase from this shop.

His dishes can easily be frozen to be eaten another day.

I'll definitely be back.

frou frou

Wanted to try Frou Frou’s food ever since they were featured on a tv program.

Glad they are on social media so I could see their operating schedule

Late afternoon is not really my favorite time to go out since I try to do all my errands in the morning, but since I wanted to try their food, I went to stand in line before their 16:00 opening time and was first in line...

The teeny shop is run only by the owner/chef, so be prepared to wait.

I was looking over the take out menu while waiting and he finally opened at 16:15

Being my first time here, I didn't know "the rules" or layout of the shop...there were tiny baskets at the entrance, so I took one, just in case.

There were so many pre-packed items to look over when I got inside, but I already had the demiglace hamburger and macaroni gratin in mind (which was featured on television), so as soon as I walked in, I grabbed those two items and as I left there was a line waiting to get in

2 demiglace hamburgers and 1 container of macaroni gratin...1500 yen (tax included)

The hamburger was so beefy! the gratin was a bit watery, I would've enjoyed it more if it were more cheesy.

Satoshi gave this a thumbs up.

I thought this was pretty reasonable, I'll try to go again, so we can try other items

inakazushi

Stumbled on this tiny bento shop near my dentist called Inakazushi
Order at the window and pay when your bento is made
Prices are all reasonable

was cool to see all sorts of sushi in the window
I ordered the nori bento...620 yen (tax included)

This was hefty with all sorts of goodies like bamboo shoots, kinpira, fried fish, lots of rice.

I wouldn't mind trying other items on their menu, I'll be back.

mos

MOS came out with a wagyu burger earlier this month...790 yen (tax included)

teriyaki sauce and a touch of yuzu kosho (citron pepper)

unusual combo but delicious!

They actually had a wagyu truffle one at the end of last year, but I'm not too much into truffle flavors so I didn't try it...

The burger is packed into this box!

I also tried their chocolate shake, that was topped with some gold flakes 450 yen (tax included)

This was a little too sweet for my liking but I like that it was super chocolatey

I'm glad I got to try these items at MOS
