the veranda

Got together with Wen and Steph for high tea at The Veranda. We were seated looking out at the ocean, it was really nice.

The waiter brought out their selection of teas and let us smell each one as he explained them.

I chose a white tea that was infused with peach. Loved the aroma of this.

We were also served a cup of white bean and garlic soup. I liked this because it wasn't overly garlicky.

Then came the finger sandwiches--can't remember what he said but they were all very good!

Chocolate Macadamia cookies and cream puffs--wished they had filled the cream puffs with custard instead of whipped pastry cream.

Mango scones with devonshire cream and mango curd....mmm!

Mango cake with a rich mango sauce and fruit tart...I liked the mango cake over the tart.

Lemongrass sorbet to cleanse the palate.

It was a gorgeous day, lots of chatting...perfect to share with friends.

I love the Moana Surfrider for afternoon tea. A long time ago they used to give you sandalwood fans to use and take home.

Those cookies look like Satura salty chocolate cookies, which wouldn't be surprising since they do a lot of desserts for Starwood hotels. Were the scones nice and light?

Now that you mention it Anon, I remember receiving a sandalwood fan also, a long time ago.

The scones were so-so, there were nice bits of mango in there though.

Take care.

Aw, such a sweet post...I love the Moana Surfrider - not staying there, but hanging on its porch and the Veranda :)

Sounds all yummy, and your mention of white bean and garlic soup reminded me of something similiar here but they put lots of RAW garlic on the soup. Guaranteed strong smells to chase vampires and whoever else away!

Ahhh! I love high tea food!! Sorry for getting so excited but they stopped having the one I liked at the Four Seasons in DC :o(

It is a pretty nice place to hang out Jude (when there aren't screaming children around) ;)

I hope to make a white bean and garlic soup when I get back Rowena :)

Boo for the loss of the high tea in your area K! I hope you get something like this soon!

Take care everyone.

Wow! Looks like they've changed many of the sweets and savoury bites since my last visit, the soup seems to be a new addition too! Do you know what the current prices are for tea? Must come back on my next trip! :)

We paid $32.50 plus plus (+tax +tip) Kathy, hope you get a chance to try them your next trip home!

Take care.

Hmmm I've not heard of mango curd before. Sounds interesting.

Barbara, in Hawaii curd is also called "butter", like lemon curd.

Take care.
