things I'm liking (disliking)

So many photos backlogged, not enough time to post about each and every one, so I'm putting them into one long post...

Some sweets from Shogetsudo, these were eaten the day after the earthquake when we needed some kibun tenkan.

Found rolled oats here, made by Nisshoku, same company I found these oats by.

Cha-no-ka, matcha langue de chats with white chocolate. I'm not a fan of white chocolate but these were delicious. Received them from a lady in French class (Merci!)

White day (March 14) came and went. Satoshi was nice and got me a box of chocolates and this cute card.

I ate the dark chocolates and shared with him the white and milk chocolates.

Love this tuna sandwich from Cascade. There is so much filling than bread (a good thing) and they also put veggies like green beans & corn in there too.

It had been 5 years since I had eaten Esola's cheesecake, in that time, they have closed a shop and now have other "flavors". We tried their matcha and their strawberry.

All were delicious, though we agree that the original is the best.

Not really liking the "American burgers" from McDs. Satoshi tried them all, I just took a bite from each.

There was Texas2 (patty with cheese, bacon & chili), Idaho (patty with cheese, hash brown, mustard sauce & onions), Miami (patty with salsa, tortilla chips & taco meat), Manhattan (patty with swiss cheese, pastrami, lettuce & onions)

Texas2 and Miami were my favs while Satoshi liked Idaho, Texas & Miami.

Sanuki Hime (Sanuki Princess) is the name of a strawberry from Kagawa Prefecture. Sanuki is the old name for this area.

This one was a bit tart but a nice match with bananas and some yogurt for breakfast.

Mochikichi's chocolate covered arare...totally addicting stuff! My host-mom gave me these when we met up for lunch. (Thank you!)

Love how when you slice off the bruised area of a strawberry it looks like polka dots.

For White Day, I bought myself some teas (and salted butter caramels). From Harney & Sons, I got their tag-along tins, these only had 5 tea bags each. I also got the assorted Kusmi Tea bags. If you click on the photo, you can read all the descriptions for each tea.

All are now gone, but all were very delicious!

I loved the tea tags from the Kusmi tea, laminated and sewn onto the muslin tea bag.

Be sure to hold the tea tag above your tea cup when steeping though or you will find a tea puddle on your counter.

We had our own little tea party at home one afternoon, with some sweets from Chikujian and a pot of green tea.

UPDATE: Because of the disaster, and radiation issues, tourism is really down (among other things), I think they were saying 50% down?? It will take many many months for these devastated areas to re-build but each of us can do our share to help. We are trying to eat locally, trying to buy things "made in Japan" and trying to travel to areas that aren't affected.

What are you liking, disliking?

Hope Satoshi didn't have all 4 McDs at one sitting!

I'm liking the mochi. I never noticed the "polka dot" effect in strawberries. That's so cool.

What a long list of yummy food! I enjoy looking each one of them! I'm going to eat mochi (with kinako) after looking your first picture. Can't resist.

Love the last photo with the sweets and teas - such a pretty set-up! And ooooh, good timing with those matcha langue de chats! Do you know if they have ones with milk or dark chocolate filling, or non-filled ones? Am trying to find a place in NYC to buy them, but I think I'll just make my own.

Wow! Those burgers look awful!

nah Nate, 4 different sittings :)

Thanks Jalna :)

Hope you get some mochi Nami :)

Malebranche doesn't make any filled with any other type of chocolate, Kathy. You'll probably have to make your own cookies and fill them yourself too :0

They were okay for one bite Anon!

Take care everyone.

I really love traditional rolled oats, but can be a little difficult to find in Japan. Managed to find American Quaker Oats, but they are instant.

I am liking the Meat Monster burger at Burger King. Have you tried it? It contains two beef patties, a chicken fillet, three bacon rashers, two slices of cheese and more, served on two white buns. It is high in calories but Only available in Japan!!

What a great roundup of food photos- making me hungry!

I've been reminding people that natural disasters don't just end when a little time has passed. I'm sure your local businesses appreciate your support!

Actually having seeing Satoshi eat, I wouldn't bet against him! LOL

I wish we had a Burger King in Osaka, J-A, if we have one, I don't know about it :)

Thanks K!

Take care you two.

We are actually planning a trip to Japan, and will be thoroughly touristy. However because of the cost f flights from the UK our trip will happen in autumn 2012... I wish we could come sooner though :(

I'm glad you are planning a trip to Japan, Katherine :) Hope you have fun!

I'm definitely going to visit Japan this year as planned. People find me weird for not being afraid of radiation but I guess if I'm gonna die of cancer or whatever, I could just die from inhaling polluted air in Bangkok anyway.

I wish all Japanese the best anyway and hope they get through this rough phase soon.

K and S said...

He he Kirk, he didn't :)

I'm glad you are still planning to visit Patzie! I hope you got your Shiroikoibito too!

Take care you two.

Yes, I think I've only ever seen Burger King in Tokyo unfortunately, but I did hear a few years ago that they were planning to spread out all over Japan.

Too much food but never enough days to talk about them. At least you eventually get around to it. I just delete the pics forever! Had a McMenu burger deal earlier in the month and felt let down afterwards. My tastebuds have changed...a lot. McD's just feels like all empty calories. Still...I like that they have clean bathrooms to use!

K and S said...

From their site, it looks like they are only in the Kanto area, J-A :)

Glad you liked them Deb in Hawaii, I'm happy to share :)

Yeah I feel that way about some of McD's items too Rowena. Clean bathrooms would be a plus for me too :)

Take care everyone.

Can't believe Satoshi ate all those burgers! It's always funny to see what passes for "American" toppings and fillings in other countries... Nice round-up!

K and S said...

It was over several week Manju :)

Take care.

Hi Kat!
I've never paid attention to sliced up strawberries. I wonder if all had "polka dots" in them or just the one you had ? :)

I had a great yummy bowl of Hokkaido crab ramen yesterday and am continuing to buy my favourite products from Japan.

Hang in there!

Hi, I enjoy reading your blog!
Can you tell me where you bought those teas and if they`re still available? I live in Takarazuka.
Thanks a lot, Francesca

K and S said...

ooh crab ramen sounds delicious Moshi!

The teas Francesca, I ordered from Dean & Deluca Japan. I am not sure if they still have these in stock but you can check online. They don't have a store in the Kansai area.

Take care you two.
