3 year service

flowers (4) We held the 3 year service for my Mom the other day. (Actually it has only been 2 years since she passed away, but the way the Japanese count things makes it all a bit confusing...)

It was a nice service and afterwards we all got together for lunch at the house.

The humidity was really gross and made things pretty uncomfortable.

Still, I'm glad we were all able to gather together and it was nice seeing everyone.

There is still quite a big void without her around, perhaps that will never change.

Missing you mom.

What are the typical service years for memorializing my late wife's passing?
I think 3-5-7 and then what? Thanks in advance.

it is all up to the family Rowena, apparently the max is 50 years because at that point usually there isn't many family members around to commemorate the deceased .

Alan, it would depend on your religion, different sects of Buddhism have their own "rules". What I've heard is that you do 1-3-7, then after that only the years that end with 3 & 7 (e.g. 13, 17, 23, 27...) then after 47, the last would be 50.

Hope this info helps!

Take care!

Although I am not a Buddhist, my grandparents were so we used the memorial year thingie to honor them. So thanks for the inputs. I will probably use them to honor my late wife, even if she wasn't a Buddhist too.

Even though you aren't Buddhist, I think this guideline would be a nice way to honor your late wife, Alan.
Lots of hugs to you!
Take care:)
