rich and bitter

Went to Starbucks yesterday for a lesson, they had a new macaron, coffee with a coffee cream filling, very bitter (220 yen about US$2.20), this would probably would have been good with something sweet to drink.

Unfortunately, I ordered the new espresso chocolate truffle--short (430 yen about US$4.30). A rich dark hot chocolate with a shot of espresso, topped with whipped cream. This drink was rich, not sweet, in fact it seemed to get bitter after eating the macaron.

They were both good, just not together.

It is Friday here, Satoshi had to get up at 4:45 a.m. to be in Nara by 8:00 a.m., which means I had to wake up at 4:30 a.m. to make some musubi for his breakfast and make sure that he woke up...Hope your weekend is a good one.

Oh my goodness! That is an early morning. Did you go back to bed after Satoshi left?

The chocolate truffle espresso sounds delish. I'd like to give it a go.

Oh definitely Tamakikat, I had a hard time going back to sleep at first but then ended waking up at 9:30 :) I hope you like the drink.

Take care.

Yeah bitter + bitter does not + good in my book. You need something sweet. Hope you got a nap in today after getting up so early!
Have a good weekend.

Satoshi is very lucky to have you! My husband gets up early every morning to make the kids breakfast (although he's not much of a cook so it's usually cereal or oatmeal and fruit; then pancakes on the weekends) and I get in a few extra minutes' sleep. That extra sleep really comes in handy in the afternoon when the kids are home from school and the house resembles a three-ring circus!

The espresso chocolate truffle sounds delicious. I love dark chocolate and prefer my drinks less sweet.

Last week, for the first time in years, I went to Starbucks with a girlfriend. I treated. OMG! I was just blown by how much it came to for a double espresso (in a paper cup and not even hot-hot!), some fancy chocolate drink (hers) and a couple of pastries. 11 something bucks! In my mind I was going...WHAT?! I think that sticker shock experience will prevent me from any more visits. I can't help doing the euro conversion in my head and it always does me in! I'd be paying half that amount in Italy.

From 5 am, I slept in until 9:30, Deb, and am thinking of maybe another nap soon :)

I think you are lucky that your husband cooks Jenster :)

Paying half and we know that the stuff you can get in Italy is so much better, Rowena :) I'm so jealous!

I hope your Friday flies by, Lori :)

Terrible indeed, Phoebe :)

Take care everyone.

Had an SB Espresso Chocolate Truffle drink today. It was good and chocolatety. So much so I couldn't taste the espresso. Wonder what the non-espresso drink tastes like.
