hara roll

Last Sunday, Satoshi and I went to check out Hara Roll. This is the sister shop of Hara Donuts.

Like their donuts, I think their cakes have okara (soy lees) and their creams have tonyu (soy milk) in them, though you can't taste either.

You can purchase whole cakes but we picked up slices of 4 different types to try.

Strawberry milk: a yellow sponge cake filled with cream and fresh strawberries and topped with a strawberry flavored powdered sugar.

Ko-cha: Earl grey cake filled with a lightly flavored earl grey cream.

Caramel: Caramel cake filled with cream and caramel coated walnuts.

Matcha: Matcha cake filled with matcha yuzu (green tea, citron) cream & an(sweet bean paste)

They were all delicious and light. Satoshi liked the strawberry milk and caramel. My favorites were the caramel & matcha.

Thanks K! Actually the family name of the donut and roll cake shop is "Hara".

Thanks Tracy, they were :)

I think they have about 4 or 5 different flavors Kathy, which I think you would definitely enjoy :)

Take care everyone.

They look wonderful Kt. I remember eating something like this when I visited Tokyo in 1991.

I discovered this place by chance
I was shuffling around Shibuya hungover and I needed cake, to soak up the booze.
I loved the look of the place and the look of the cakes.
I got a stock vanilla cream one then eat it with my fingers on the street. I don't think this is done in Tokyo.
I never tasted anything so good
I kept going back, the staff found it funny
here is this barbarian standing in a queue with these aristocratic Japanese ladies.
Waiting silently for the same delicious cakes.
