todoromi marmalade

Satoshi has been working very late hours. He also leaves for work earlier than usual too.

It is taking its toll not only on him, but on me too.

Most days I feel like I am jet lagged or have a hangover. One day, I ended up sleeping practically the whole day.

Yesterday was a beautiful sunny day, I was still feeling sluggish, but decided to get out and about because the next couple of days are supposed to be rainy.

I headed to Minoo station and went to check out several shops that I heard were selling the Todoromi yuzu (citron) marmalade made with yuzu grown in a part of Minoo called Todoromi.

I was happy because they had some. One bottle was 450 yen (about US$4.50). I decided to buy one to try and one to give away.

Over the years, I've learned that during winter, most people in Japan drink yuzu-cha (citron tea). There is no "tea" involved, they just melt some marmalade into hot water.

After drinking the "tea", they eat the yuzu bits.

It is a nice way to fight off colds and warm up too.

I hope this is good, though I'm pretty sure it will be. UPDATE: it was delicious!

It's so hard when having to work longer hours, I've been experiencing a lot of that (to the point where I'm sure my blog might need to be slowed/stopped for a while). I hope things calm down, esp. with the holidays showing up!

sorry to hear Hitomineko, hope you can get another car or get that one fixed!

Jude, I'm so sorry for your loss! (I just read on Hitomineko's blog). Please take care.

Take care you two.

Chance upon your blog while searching about japanese sweets for my Japan trip and read about you going to kyoto sweet museum (if i don't remember wrongly).but didn't have the chance to visit the place when we went kyoto.
Love your site. Bravo.

I remember how shocked I was the first time you mentioned the crazy hours that Satoshi works. MotH doesn't have it that bad since he is on a unionized contract, but he does end up starting a little bit earlier and later than usual.

I'm gonna try this idea of melting marmalade in hot water right now. The clouds just rolled in and I can't see the horizon again.

Thanks Tearybabe, maybe the next time you could check out the museum :)

The other night was nuts Rowena, he came home at 3:30 and left the house again at 6:30...talk about sleepy. Hope you like the marmalade tea :)

Take care you two.

That is NUTS. What, he was able to take a nap before having to leave for work again? I sure hope that he's getting triple overtime!

Rowena, he came home, took a bath and napped, in the meantime, I woke up to make him breakfast, then he was out the door.

Glad you liked the marmalade tea!

Take care.

I just discovered this at the Korean supermarket nearby (by nearby, I mean 26 miles away!). I always sort of passed it over because I thought it was just regular orange flavor, but then they gave out samples when the weather started turning colder. Wow, now I love yuzu and have a large jar of this in the fridge!

Manju, I think the Koreans also make a ginger version. Instead of the yuzu they have ginger in their marmalade, this is also good for a ginger "tea".

Take care.
