guru guru bakery

Guru Guru Bakery is located one train station away from us, about a 25 minute walk.

Their baked items seemed like French style and I love that you need to communicate with the people behind the counter as to what you want instead of taking things with a tray and tongs.

Everything looked so good that I bought 4 different things...

caramel nut danish...this was good, though the caramel oozed out of the container they had put it in and went all over the plastic bag that the rest of the items I bought were in...

chocolate walnut scone (square)...a bit dry but flaky

meat gratin pie (bottom right)...flaky pastry lots of italian seasoned tomato, meat and cheese filling...delicious.

sakusaku apuri...flaky crispy pastry mixed with walnuts and apricot jam...so good!

I am glad I tried these and that they are not too close to where we are...I'll be back.

when I saw the name first, I thought this was kuru kuru bakery that we have here in hawaii. Kuru kuru sells more of the refrigerated type pastries, mousse tarts, their type of coco puffs, jello cakes, etc. so I guess it is not the same franchise.
Japan has so many bakeries to die for! There is one close to the Takanawa exit of Shinagawa station that sells a cheddar cheese bun and larger boule type bread drenched in butter, crunchy crust sprinkled with cheddar and baked inside, chunks of white cheddar cheese. Gaaaah, I'm drooling just thinking of it! I even tried buying some french boule to make my own but maybe because I just bought cheapy Safeway bread....

V, lots of these bakeries train in Europe, which is why their stuff is so good!

Take care.

yeah that thing about serving yourself...it's the same way at the cafè bars here (like at the airport, gas station, etc.). you just take your pastry that's in a plastic case (sometimes even without a lid!). at least at the bars on the autoroute, you gotta communicate what you want and they'll serve it from a big display case.

LOL, I laughed when I read that you're glad that they're not too close to you. Funny.

like having them serve you, a little more sanitary, Rowena, though there are those who use latex gloves to grab the pastries and then use the cash register with the gloves on...sigh.

Jalna, I would be there everyday otherwise...:p

Kirk :)

Take care everyone.
