just use a different bag...

As I watched the news, I was rolling my eyes at all the people lined up in front of the department stores in Japan to get this bag. And in Taiwan (I think it was), they had a stampede for this bag...pu-lee-ze.

Sure, it may be the in-thing to have right now, but if you truly want to help cut back the amount of shopping bags and plastic bags being used and waste going to the landfills....just use your own cloth bags, I'm sure you have a couple lying around waiting for you to use.

Haha! Too funny...I wonder what that thing cost? Or was it for FREE?

In Italy the goal is to be rid of plastic sacks in a couple of years. Plastic will be replaced by biodegradable bags which I'm certain will cost a few extra cents upon checkout but at least it'll help the environment.

I'm two steps ahead of them. I have like, 5 big sturdy shopping bags that I take along whenever we shop. I wish they'd think of doing this in the islands. It's so said to see so much plastic going into the landfill. :-(

I know Jusco here takes off some money from your bill if you bring your own bag. The consumption tax comes to mind.

Rowena, in Japan it cost about US$25! can't see paying for a bag that can barely fit any groceries in it. Every time I go home, I freak out at the supermarkets, they bag EVERYTHING separately. We walk out of the supermarket with 6 or 7 plastic bags. Your bags sound really well made.

Nate, a lot of supermarkets in Osaka give credit to your point card. But if they take off the tax for bringing in your bag, I'm gonna shop there! You should watch the other ladies bag their groceries with the roll of plastic veggie/fruit bags on the bagging tables, they use one for each item that they buy! I think the stores should charge for these bags too!

Take care you two.

Thanks Bourgogne, it really is ridiculous to get so hyped over a bag. I also heard that after buying this bag, they put them into shopping bags for customers to carry out...defeating the whole purpose if you ask me...

Take care.

$25 for a little grocery bag? Man I wish I had thought of this idea first! Ha :)

I know Ann....I think most of the cost is for the brand name/label. :)

Thanks for stopping by and take care!
