petit snacks

MisDo (Mister Donut) along with MOS Burger (my favorite place to eat burgers in Japan) recently came out with these cute little donut "burgers" 168 yen (about US$1.68) for two and "fries" 126 yen (about US$1.26).

The buns are donuts, the patty a square of chocolate filled with crisps, one burger has strawberry whipped cream and strawberry sauce, while the other burger has matcha (green tea) whipped cream and matcha sauce. The "fries" are actually donuts, I think they have mixed in potatoes to give it that french fry taste and it even comes with a packet of ketchup! sweet and salty, great combo! The "burgers" are delicious, though the sauces are hard to pick out.

I also recently came across these tiny Kit Kat at the convenience store. One is only 24 calories! (as you can see I ate 3)

Japan is definitely fond of "little tastes".

Just wanted to say how much I'm enjoying your blog. I've added it (about a month ago) to my Google Reader so I never miss a blog post. Japan is the #1 place we would love to visit one day. I always say I'd rent an apartment and stay for 2 months. That's my dream.
I love that you share the prices with us too so we really get an idea of life in Japan. Thank you so much for your blog.
I'm from Chilliwack, B.C. Canada.

Hmmm....June 5th is supposed to be National Donut Day so if MisDo is up for a celebration, maybe you can check it out? I'm hoping to get my azuki beans by then and make that recipe that you sent me -- azuki donuts for donut day!

Love the little donut burgers--so cute! I prefer little desserts and tastes of things to one big piece of dessert so you can have more variety.

Those look like real burgers at first glance! Japan always seems to come out with the coolest things. I'll say it again, Kat....I'm jealous! :)

I agree with you Deb, smaller tastes for more variety :)

I love the crispy wafer in the kit kat, CC :)

Thanks Pocky! Hope you get a chance to come to Japan soon!

They sound yummy! I used to love going to the "conbini" and they have those tiny little chocolates and stuff for 20yen. I always had fun tasting those.

Melanie, The convenience stores have so many different and new candies/sweets, it is very addicting :)

Take care.

Those are adorable. I'm sure I would eat way too many of those "burgers" under the guise of "they're so small." LOL

K and S said...

I know, I have to try to stay away from there Jenster :)

Take care.

At first I thought you were saying that Japan had caught on to the craze here in the US of putting hamburgers (as in real beef burgers) between 2 glazed donuts instead of bread buns. But the "burger" you're talking about is actually chocolate -- THAT is cute... I hope the burger-donut thing doesn't catch on in Japan...

I saw that on the internet Manju and wow! I hope it doesn't catch on here either (cross your fingers and toes).

Take care.

Do they sell the donut burgers at Mr. Donut? I went to Mos Burger yesterday and ordered something with a Mr Donut logo on it, thinking I was getting one of these. Instead, I got a MOS burger with a hamburger patty shaped like a donut. I loved it, incidentally, but I didn't quite get what the gimmick was?

I didn't get mine from MOS, I got mine from MisDo Mary and Sean...they are working together on this campaign. After you mentioned it, I went to the MOS site and saw that they are selling real burgers with holes in them...if you have a Mister Donut nearby, you should check them out for the donut "burgers".

Take care.
