things I'm liking (for breakfast)

What are you enjoying for breakfast?

I hope you do eat breakfast, did you know that until Satoshi and I started dating, he didn't?!

Now, he says, "he can't live without it" (breakfast).

Anyway, it has been awhile for a "things I'm liking post", so I thought I'd share with you some things that I'm liking for breakfast.

I first heard about Pon juice from Martin's blog.

This is one of the first "local" orange/citrus juices that is a juice made from 100% mikan (tangerine)grown in Japan.

Most others add grape juice or other fruits to come up with the 100%, leaving you with only a smidge of orange in there.

On the container they are called "pom" but the katakana reads "pon".

It is a little pricey, but worth every "penny", especially since they don't use a lot of preservatives or colorings. I think the label only lists 2 ingredients, the mikan juice and a preservative.

We'll be drinking this often.

It is strawberry season here.

The other day, while I was at the market, these caught my eye.

Hinoshizuku are grown in Kumamoto and are really sweet.

I debated whether to get them because they were quite expensive, 599 yen (about US$5.99) a container, but I'm glad I did. In the container there were 2 layers, total about 35 or so berries.

They are sweet and delicious, perfect for our mornings.

Nisshoku's quick oats. On their site it says that they are the first company to bring oatmeal and cereal to Japan in 1929.

Everything grown in Hokkaido and don't you just love the can?

I bought the quick oats at Seijo Ishii but noticed on their site that they have a rolled oats, which I'm interested in trying. I hope I can find them somewhere.

In the meantime, I have Bob's Red Mill Thick Oats in the container, which I brought back from one of my trips to Hawaii.

I recently found these kiwi, I've mostly seen the ones from New Zealand but these from Shikoku (Ehime) caught my eye...198 yen (about US$1.98) for 5.

They were a little tart and a bit on the unripened side but were great with plain yogurt and homemade granola made with pecans, pistachios and dried cherries.

Is there something you are enjoying for breakfast?

I just have coffee for breakfast . . . not too healthy. I'll be keeping my eye out for some of the Pon juice. Looks good.

I love the things you have for brekky. My husband always gives me weetbix with honey, whatever fruit we have around the house and milk. As long as he's making it for me I like it! On Saturdays we have scrambled eggs with cooked ham on toast. It's our little treat.

Hiya!

I usually have 100% apple juice (Martinelli's - no additives of any kind) or Simply Limeade, a cup of coffee, and an egg sunny side up.

The Pon juice looks delish. We have Pom Wonderful here, organic pomegranate juice, so I was suprised to see "Pom" as mikon juice! :)

I hope you can find some Pon Jalna :)

Sounds wonderful Momiji :)

I have seen Pom (pomegranate) in the US Biologie, but have never tried it.

I bet you do Abigail :) Hope you are well.

Take care everyone!

You have been enjoying some great breakfasts--that juice is interesting. I eat a lot of dinner leftovers for breakfast--I'm strange like that. ;-)

Thanks Kirk :)

That is funny Debinhawaii, sometimes I have breakfast for dinner :)

The strawberries are pricey but judging from the picture, I can say it's fresh and worth it.

Recently I have been enjoying homemade yogurt and granola, and wishing I could afford to buy strawberries every single day. Some branches of Seijo Ishii have yogurt and kefir cultures! I will definitely look for the oats from Hokkaido.

Been enjoying your blog for a long time and have just gotten around to posting a comment. I'm a neighbor and fellow food lover, just over the border in Hyogo-ken!

Take care.

The strawberries look so good! I can almost taste it just by looking at the picture!
I dragged my husband over to see the strawberries and we sighed wistfully... hoping we can eat it without paying double the price for it here.

Enjoy more strawberries this season! =)

Home-made yogurt does sound like fun! One of my biochemistry lab partners made yogurt for his lab exam and it worked perfectly.

He was trying to get us to taste it but no one wanted to try yogurt made in a college biochem lab, lol.

I'm another caffeine junkie, but most likely because it is so cold in the morning, all I can think about is coffee or tea. When I do eat breakfast, it's about 10-11am!

unfortunately, sometimes the best fruit does cost a lot here Moshi :0

that is funny Biologie, I read that you need to keep it at 110 degrees for several hours, I probably would need a new gadget for that ;)

Thanks Paz :)

Take care everyone!

You're right about the 110 degrees (F.) I've seen yogurt makers at my local recycle shop but there's no need for that! If you have an oven, try setting it as low as it will go or on "keep warm." A large thermos is also possible- that's what I do. It only needs to set for 6-8 hours, which a thermos can totally handle. Finally, if your house is anything like mine, you could just wait till the summer....

Thanks Katie, I'll use my thermos :) Looking forward to making my own yogurt :) Thanks for all your help!

Take care.
