tolo pan tokyo

Ordered Tolo Pan Tokyo's stollen...5400 yen (tax included)...(3900 yen (tax included) 1500 yen (tax included)...shipping...kinda pricey)  it was delivered on Sunday.

This stollen was different from the ones we have tried in the past, the texture is hard to describe, it wasn't like a bread or cake.

There was a hard “crust”on the outside and the inside was dense.

A lot of dried fruits but not a lot of spices.

Maybe the texture will change over the next couple of weeks.

Honestly a little disappointed but I'm still glad we tried this.

wow! It even looks weird sliced!
So far in Hawaii, I like Kahala's the best. But seems to me they could cut cost by not wrapping so fancy, LOL

looks like one of my many failed baking experiments in the past when the dough or batter didn't rise. maybe the baking powder was expired or they added too much liquids? but stollen sure isn't supposed to look like mochi, so something must have went wrong. you can offer them feedback. I would be disappointed to receive something like this too, if I were expecting stollen. let them know!

I googled Tolo Pan's stollen and ikt looks like it's supposed to be like that. He mentions mazipan (not that I can totally understand the google translate) but if that's what he was aiming for, makes sense for it to look like that.

It looks like it is a thin layer of cake surrounding marzipan center .

Anon, I re-read the description and it says they use lots of cream cheese, but the part that is unusual is that it isn't creamy...

Rowena :)

Jalna, true dat :)

Aw Tofugirl, so sweet of you, but please save your money, postage is krazy! please just post your stollen so I can ogle :)

Thanks V, I re-read the description and it says they use lots of cream cheese...still the texture was different.

Joanna, the thin layer was super hard, not cake like...

Take care everyone!
