made in japan

Since we had bought that organic green tea from the Shimabara/Nagasaki food fair, I thought it might be nicer to enjoy this ground up like matcha.

While eating the leaves after brewing was an interesting and delicious way, I feel like being able to drink it would be an easier alternative.

I bought the matcha mill by Porlex.

They are the same company that made the coffee mill that I wrote about here.

With just 1 gram of green tea.

You can make about a teaspoon or so of matcha.

The package says that 1 gram of tea will be enough for about 1 or 2 cups of matcha...

We tried some this morning with some frothed milk as a latte and think 1 gram (of tea) is enough for 1 cup rather than 2.

I still have to figure out how to get my frothed milk a little tighter...

Changing the subject...It's St. Patrick's Day and we'll probably be having canned corned beef and cabbage for dinner since I've not seen fresh corned beef here...

It's also a 3-day weekend here...though Satoshi needs to work tomorrow.

Hope you all have a nice weekend.

OMG! A long time ago, Shirokiya at Ala Moana was selling this matcha grinder for some biiiig bucks! maybe about $40?? I should remember because I bought one. Thanks for reminding me about it, I've been buying matcha powder lately to try making the matcha beer and sprinkling in my smoothies. I better look for it!

is your frother like the tiny little whisk-like ones?

I've been putting about 3/4 tsp matcha powder in a small jar and about 3/4 oz of warm water then shaking the jar to dissolve the matcha powder (easier than stir like crazy in a cup). Then pour into a beer cup and add cold beer.
I usually put a beer in the freezer for 15 minutes or so so the beer will be ice cold to counter the warm water in the matcha. Of course, the lighter colored beers look nicer than darker beers which make the matcha beer look a a little unappetizing, but it's still really good!
I read that one of the breweries has been bringing out a canned match beer lately, sapporo? suntory? I forget which. I also saw a posting on rocketnews24 and they gave a little recipe on how to make your own.

ooh thanks V, will check out rocketnews24 :)

we had corned beef (canned) and cabbage Kirk...no more fresh kind (or at least I don't know where to find it & was too lazy to try to make my own from scratch)...

Take care everyone!
