back to columbia

Satoshi's tour guide job turned out to be just leading the German group from the cruise ship to the bus and helping them check in to fly out from Haneda and then meeting the next group at Haneda and leading them to their bus going to the cruise ship

He said he didn't need to speak much German or English, which he said was a bit disappointing.

But he also said when he did have to speak, it made him nervous and double guess his language skills.

Live and learn moment...

At about noon, he emailed saying that he had time off until 16:30-ish, so he was coming home.

Since I hadn't had lunch yet, we went to have lunch at Columbia.

I ordered the meat sauce spaghetti...this came with a salad and coffee...850 yen (tax included).

The noodles were a bit overcooked for my liking, but I enjoyed the meat sauce's beefy flavor.

Satoshi had their wafu (Japanese style) hamburger, this came with a salad, a little napolitan and coffee...880 yen (tax included)

He said he enjoyed this.

We love that this place is no smoking.

I also enjoyed listening to three grandmas talking story.

We'll be back.

At 16:30, Satoshi went back to Haneda to meet his new group.

Their flight was delayed, so by the time he came home it was almost 22:00.

He said even though it was a bit tiring, it was a good experience.

Great 1st job!
Love wafu hamburger. Long time ago, like 30 years or more, there used to be a Japanese restaurant called Kamigata on Keeaumoku St, right across where Sam's Club/Walmart is. One of their lunch specials was wafu hamburger donburi. It was the bomb! I've ordered wafu hamburger at Ethel's, and Mr. Ojisan but even though good, cannot touch the donburi at Kamigata!

I'm sure that the more he works, the more comfortable he'll be with German!

V, wasn't there a Kamigata restaurant in Manoa? or am I thinking of a different one?

Kirk, I hope so :)

Take care you two.

yah, they opened Kamigata in Manoa which was pretty good but rarely had the wafu. Then their bookkeepper embezzled and they got in trouble with the liquor commission because he/she didn't pay the licensing fee so they had to close. boo hoo. They were so good.

if I knew how to say 'that's okay, there'll be a next time' in German (without the help of google translate), that is what I would tell Satoshi.

I'll tell him you said that Rowena :)

Take care.
