odds & ends

I had planned to post this on the last day of May, but was too excited about making Bo Luc Lac, so I'm cleaning out my photos today...On one of my walks, I found this Mini, which had all these head lamps on the front.

This really old Mitsubishi Jeep. I didn't know they made them.

Vanilla macaron at Starbucks didn't have much vanilla flavor, tasted more like almonds. The inside was filled with "vanilla"-ish cream.

Citrus macaron at Starbucks. This one didn't have much citrus flavor either. I kind of wanted it to "scream" lemon or lime.

Mixed berry macaron at Starbucks, this would have to have been the best of the three I tried. Lots of berry flavor.

Spent big money on junk bing cherries.

They looked nice in the package, but upon opening them, they were quite bruised and a light red. Not the deep red color that they should be.

I put them into some muffins with chocolate chips thinking they would get "sweeter" but they were still junk.

Ahmad's Earl Grey Tea. I bought this thinking that there was no sugar in it, I should have looked at the label. This was too sweet.

Despite most of the misses in this post, we still had a delicious May, I hope you did too. Gochisoosama!

Those cherries are so light-colored they look like blush-colored grapes. Bad deal!

Your comment about your canned Earl Grey tea drink being too sweet has made me wonder if Japan too has started to add an excessive amount of sugar to drinks like the U.S.? Perhaps you could ask your husband for his opinion since he grew up drinking Japanese soft drinks.

That's too bad about the cherries. I hate it when that happens! Kind of like when I purchase oranges that look nice and ripe but turn out to be dry.

Thanks Jalna, I should've known better :(

Anon, he grew up with Ramune and Cider, which is similar to Sprite/7up, most drinks nowadays advertise non-sugar but they are actually using sugar substitutes. I just have to be more careful and read the labels!

Ooh, I hate dry oranges too Jenster :(

Take care everyone!

I'm amazed that there are quite a lot of vintage Mini coops in your area. I only rarely see the old ones, but when I do, they are in really REALLY good condition...often better maintained than the newer models being driven by young hipsters.

I guess now that I'm on the lookout for them Rowena, there are many around :)

Take care.

Hey Kat - I thought those cherries were radishes at first glance.... I gotta get my eyes checked! You have quite a collection of "mini photos".

I hate spending good money on bad fruit!

I just finally tried the macarons at Honolulu Coffee Company. Good flavors--I tried the lilikoi, haupia and salted caramel and all were tasty but the inside filling is a bit too soft and liquid. Anyway something for your list for this year's visit home. ;-)

Thanks Kirk, hopefully my collection will grow ;)

Thanks Debinhawaii, maybe we can go try them together ;)

Take care you two.
