screens

I think our screen door that faces the Haneda airport gets the most rain and wind.
When we moved in, it already had some small holes in it.
While I was in Hawaii, I got a message from Satoshi that the screen ripped from the krazy winds.

We contacted the building management and they said we need to fix it ourself…boo

Which made us appreciate and remember the building management guy we had in Osaka, boy, were we spoiled, especially since we’ve never replaced the screens before.

So we measured the door.

Cut a piece of the rubber thingy that holds the screen to the door, so we could make sure it was the right size



And went to the DIY store to get the things we needed to fix the screen.

These two round things are used to hold the screen to the door while you "stuff" the rubber into the groove.

I think if you have metal clips, you could use them instead of these…298 yen (tax included)

Choose a screen...you could choose from black, grey or something called "gold black magic"...we chose black.

#24 is the size of the screen’s “holes” and is apparently the best size to use

2 meters in length should be enough for 1 screen door…448 yen (tax included)

You need this roller thingy with a pointy tip to "stuff" the rubber thingy in the groove to hold the screen in place.

Use the pointy side to "dig" out the old rubber thingy from the door.

The roller side is to "roll" over the rubbery thing as you put it into the groove of the screen…198 yen (tax included)

You need 6 to 7 meters for 1 screen door….178 yen (tax included)

We actually thought a scissors was easier to use…428 yen (tax included)
It's amazing how big a screen door is when you need to lay it flat on the floor, it took up most of our 2nd room.
It was so hot even if we worked on the door at 7:30 in the morning.

Sorry to our neighbors for using the vacuum cleaner at that hour too.
Took us over 30 minutes but we did it.

Now we can add screen fixer to our résumé

Hopefully we won't need to do this for awhile, or at least during the summer.

Kirk, I'll have Satoshi look it over again, but when I looked online, most building management companies make you pay for things like this.
